#shorts • 🌱 To grow microgreens, you’ll need a seedling tray, seeds of your choosing, compost or potting soil, vermiculite (optional), something to water with, and a label (so you know what's what). • ☀️ First, fill your tray with a layer of soil. • 💧 Avoid filling the tray to the top. Microgreens are essentially seedlings, so the soil doesn’t need to be very deep to support their roots. • ✂️ Next, pat down the soil. A smooth surface will ensure your seeds germinate evenly. • 🌱 Thoroughly water the soil so that it's nicely moist. • ☀️ Now you’re ready to sow some seeds! Hannah’s using Radish Rioja. Other popular varieties include broccoli, watercress, pea, and arugula seeds. • 💧 Sprinkle the seeds across the surface of the soil. • ✂️ Spread out the seeds evenly. You can use your fingers to move them around, and gently press them into the soil. • 🌱 Next, cover the seeds. • ☀️ You can use more compost or potting soil. Hannah’s using vermiculite. • 💧 Vermiculite is a type of mineral that’s great for germinating seeds and propagating plants. • ✂️ It retains water and nutrients, then releases them over time. • 🌱 Since it doesn’t restrict airflow, it won’t suffocate seeds or roots. It even promotes airflow when mixed with soil. • ☀️ Press vermiculite down to promote contact between the seeds and the soil. Try to keep things even. • 💧 You’re almost done! Give the seeds a good, but gentle, watering. • ✂️ Lastly, don’t forget to label your seed tray. Especially if you’re growing multiple varieties. • • Have you experimented with growing microgreens at home? We’d love to hear about it!
