Ladies and Gentlemen, I now present to you the next chapter of John Culhane's book about Walt Disney's Fantasia: The Sorcerer's Apprentice! Only less than a month until the 80th anniversary of Fantasia's premiere, so be sure to mark your calendars!! • In case you're wondering why I'm posting this video again, it's because a section of it was flagged for a copyright claim. Luckily, I figured out a way to fix that section without compromising the story and my narration. Plus, it gave me a chance to tweek some things around to make the video a little bit better as well. • Anyway, it all started out as a story told by Greek satirist, Lucian, about 100 years after the time of Christ. Then over 1,700 years later, it became a poem written by Goethe, which composer Paul Dukas would later covert into a legendary composition, which over time became - as Deems Taylor put it - a piece of music that tells a very definite story ! • What started out as an ambitious and expensive two-reel Silly Symphony cartoon turned into something much more! The Sorcerer's Apprentice was not only the tip of the iceberg of the making of Fantasia as a full-length concert feature - as previously mentioned in the first chapter - but it was responsible for catapulting Mickey Mouse to an even higher level of recognition and fame since his debut in Steamboat Willie 12 years earlier. It would later appear on the big screen again in the sequel, Fantasia 2000, and would eventually be adapted into a full-length live action remake starring Nicholas Cage in 2010.
