The key to successful crops in the desert is water retention in the soil. I'm planning to grow corn, squash, and beans in this arid land. My hut and garden area are on a slope. Strategically building a small dam to collect water as it flows down the slope will help to collect more water in the garden area. Other strategies will also be employed such as the use of biochar, compost, and heavy mulching.
