We join the mountain rescue services of Air Zermatt in the Swiss Alps during a rescue at the Aletschgletscher. One mountaineer has fallen into a crevasse. The rescuers try to save his life, but unfortunately the crash turned out to be fatal. • • • http://www.air-zermatt.ch • http://www.alpinerescuecenter.ch • • The Alpine Rescue Center offers courses on a high level that prepares rescuers for the challenging operations under extreme conditions. • • Practising Emergency Medical Service in the mountains is extremely challenging. High altitude, extreme temperatures, strong winds, unpredictable weather, weight issues, limited resources and no place for mistakes. • • After successfully completing the courses, a rescuer or paramedic might achieve the International Diploma of Mountain Emergency Medicine for Emergency Physicians or Paramedics, certified by ICAR, UIAA and ISMM.
