Project leader Elma Blom leads an interdisciplinary consortium researching the use of home language among non-Dutch children. Children who come to live here should learn our language as soon as possible, but it is a misconception that this cannot go hand in hand with the use of their home language, says Blom. In fact, there are advantages to using their home language. For example, it allows a child to keep up better in school and a child feels more quickly at home in this country, where everything is new to them. Multi-STEM focuses on learning math, science and technology.
