Infanticide is a common phenomenon in long-tailed macaques behavior. Males kills infants that are likely not their own offspring to reduce the interbirth period, since the female interbirth period will be reduced if they lost their nursing infants. the female estrus cycle will be faster than if they reared the infant completely.
