Vita Sackville-West, here played by Syl Tavernise, writes to her lover Virginia Woolf in January of 1926. • Actor's note: • “Vita and Virginia’s letters are very important to me, a lesbian whose identity has been dismissed as a modern trend more times than I can count. While both were married to men, Vita’s husband was gay and Virginia’s entered the relationship knowing she had zero sexual interest in him. Their love affair is still known today as one of the most influential on the American literary canon—Orlando, both the book and the character, were based on Vita. Reading these shards of my community’s history in the form of their letters was transformative for me, and I hope the rest of you can at least enjoy the poetry of Vita’s words.” • • This June, we celebrate pride month by centering this, our first series of home monologues, on LGBTQ+ representation throughout theatrical and literary history. • If you enjoy our content, drop us a tip at https://venmo.com/starhouseATC
