Our second geography report! We decided to start going alphabetically continent by continent, starting with Asia. Which brings us to Afghanistan! There are not many resources out there (especially for kids) about this country due to all the war and bad news over the decades (well, centuries). But it is a country with ordinary people and beautiful natural and man-made wonders that deserves more positive light! In this episode the kids give their best Arabic Salam Aleikum / ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ greeting, learn a bit about Muslim culture and Mosques, minarets and call to prayer. They talk about the Taliban and how it's hard to be a girl under Taliban rule, but how there are inspirational stories of Afghani girls and women braving the dangers to get educated and live free lives. There are some good movies about this subject like The Breadwinner and Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you're a girl) . We mention the capital Kabul and some important landmarks like the blue mosque (Hazrat Ali Mazar حذرت علي مزار), Bamiyan and the big buddhas that were destroyed, and Band-E Amir National Park (بند امیر) with its blue lakes. There's the Hindu-Kush Mountain Range that creates a funny narrow border with China where snow leopards (ghost cats) and ibex live. Oh, and one food you can find there is....
