LIKE if you have gone over screen time recommendations. • As a Pediatrician, I often hear so many opinions on screen time. I do believe as a parent, you can come up with your own rules to manage things like screen time. • We go over the screen time recommendations some days and never feel guilty. Why? Because when understanding your child’s development it's important to always be looking at the big picture. • Ryaan has been off of school for two weeks and we sometimes clocked 2-3 hours a day, but these hours were balanced with a lot of outdoor play, play with us with screens off, and making sure he's in bed on his routine. • The key to establishing boundaries with screens is to find a system that works for you and always making sure that: • ✔️Sleep is a priority • ✔️There is balance with outdoor activities and time with a caregiver • ✔️You consider visual health (preferring TV over small devices and taking breaks for eyes). • ✔️You are able to transition away from screen time without too much of a breakdown. • I think screens get a bad rap, but they're not all bad and can be a tool in your activity rotation. • It's up to you to balance it with other activities and remove the guilt. • From a developmental perspective, I do recommend avoidance under 1 except for video-chatting with family. • If you are using it between 1-2 years of age, co-viewing with your child is ideal and can mix with solo-viewing as their language develops. • I like to foster independent play away from screens as much as we can during this age and using screens as a tool if needed. • For more on screen-time, the research, co-viewing tips, and how to create balance, check out my blog: Am I damaging my child with screen time? linked below: • https://pedsdoctalk.com/am-i-damaging... • Share your feelings on screen time recommendations below! 👇🏽
