(4 Aug 1995) Eng/Serb/Nat • • Bosnian Serb television led its newscast Friday morning with reports of the Croatian offensive. • • Earlier, Bosnian leader Radovan Karadzic visited troops en route to the front lines. He told them to retake Grahovo and Glamoc, towns recently attacked by Croatian troops. • • Bosnian Serb TV led with the major assault made by Croatian forces Friday. • • SOUNDBITE: Serbo-Croat • Croatian army and HVO forces have started a major artillery attack on Knin, Benkovac, Orlovac, Vrnja Most, Petrinja, and a large number of other populated areas in this region. Colonel Kosta Novakovic - deputy commander of Croatian Serb units in Krajina , told Danjug that Serb units have not attacked civilians in Croatia. We just tried to defend attacks by the Croatian army on the front lines...... and according to Associated Press, UN spokesman Chris Gunness said that between two and three hundreds Croatian mortar shells slammed into central Knin for 30 minutes this morning. The attacks started just after 5:00 am local time. • • Earlier Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic visited troop reinforcements near Pale Friday. • • The Bosnian Serb soldiers are reinforcing the areas around Grahovo and Drvar, and hope to gain back some recent losses. • • He did not comment on the news that Croatian government forces and breakaway Serbs are trading heavy weapons fire in and around the Serbs' self-proclaimed capital of Knin in Krajina. • • SOUNDBITE: English • Croatian aggression is very brutal. They target not only militate but civilian targets- and the international community has to condemn this aggression and to sanction it through the security council.
