Maintaining 18 Episode 27 • • In the follow-up video, the water heater is restored to full heating capability. New water heater elements are installed, and the heater maintained using a descaler kit. The video shows what happens when the heater is not descaled. • The descaler removes buildup of calcium and magnesium carbonates, and other undissolved minerals, which contributes to the failure of the heating element. Dissolves inorganic mineral deposits that contaminate unrestricted flow to restore water circulation (Chromex). The heating element will fail and typically due to overheating—the irony. • • The water heater has never been serviced since being put in operation. It was in use for approximately 3-years 3 months before it failed.
