Handel’s Messiah was introduced on April 9th 1742 as part of the Easter Passion and specifically describes the Passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Part II begins with the choir asking us to listen to the story of the Lamb of God, “Messiah”, who must die painfully; and sacrifice his life as the price of absolving the sin of all humanity. • “Behold The Lamb Of God” (chorus) is taken from John 1: 29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
