Who is Fernando Botero? Fernando Botero is arguably the most famous artist to ever come out of Colombia. Botero was born in Medellín in 1932 and began his art career at a very young age. His first paintings were displayed when he was only 16 years old and he had his first one-man show 2 years later in Bogotá. • Fernando Botero would go on to become a world renown artist, having his works displayed in every continent. Plaza Botero is one of the most iconic places in Medellín and it is there that you can see various sculptures he donated to the city. Also located in Plaza Botero is Museo de Antioquia, which features a large collection of Botero’s paintings.
