Freebords were developed to allow snowboarders to transition to skateboarding (as non-winter transport) without needing to adapt to a smaller deck and narrower wheel-base. Unlike longboarding or mountain boarding, freebording allows you much more versatility with tricks like on the ground like 360 spins and carving. (The spellings Freeboard and Freeboarding are commonly used as well)
