A topping-out ceremony was held on Saturday for the 264-meter-tall minaret of the Great Mosque of Algeria, the tallest minaret in the world and also the tallest building in Africa. • Present at the ceremony for the project, which is undertaken by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), were Chinese ambassador to Algeria Yang Guangyu and the Algerian Minister of Housing and Urban Development Abdelmadjid Tebboune. • We are grateful to the great Chinese friends, who come up with this masterpiece of architecture. It will be written into history as a monumental work of religious architecture. It is the third-largest mosque in the world, ranking only after the two Great Mosques in Mecca and Medina. It is a majestic building, which symbolizes the friendship between Algeria and China, said Tebboune. • The minister conferred medals to Chinese and Algerian builders for their outstanding contributions to the project. • Located on the coast of Algiers Gulf, the Great Mosque is currently the largest project contracted by a Chinese company in Africa for 1.5 billion dollars. • The construction standard of the project is very high. It is designed and built according to the standard that will withstand the test of time for a thousand years.
