MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. • What shows up on an MRI scan?: The radiologist compares the size and distributions of these bright and dark areas to determine whether a tissue is healthy. From that point, it is up to the physician who ordered the MRI scan to share the results with the patient. • Can you eat and drink before an MRI?: On the day of your MRI scan, you should be able to eat, drink and take any medication as usual, unless advised otherwise.
