Used daily for years on end a Telescopic Conveyor bearing the Caljan name MUST be able to perform beyond customer expectations. • Caljan Telescopic Conveyors have surplus strength so they function at full capacity throughout a rather extensive lifetime. The construction of the sections is key to the strength. The shape and height of the section profiles must be just right. The steel used must be of the right grade and thickness. A Telescopic Conveyor bears its own weight as well as the cargo, so it needs to be both strong and light. • The joint between sections must be strong enough to carry the extension and flexible enough to give - rather than break. Elasticity is really important. A conveyor that isn’t able to flex would break when fully extended. When developing new conveyors, we use Finite Element method to analyse the structure. This software enables us to study how the conveyor behaves when subjected to stress. • Vulnerable areas can be identified and reinforced and flexibility can be optimized. Once the design is tested in theory, we produce proto-types and test them in realistic situations simulating the harsh environment of the loading and unloading zone. This testing phase includes lengthy periods of direct and continuous impacts. • We also test how impacts affect exposed elements, such as the two-way, anti-collision bumper. At the moment of impact, the bar you see here has a force that corresponds to a fully loaded cage smashing into the conveyor. The gear motor, drum motor, wheels, bearings and electrical system are all vigorously tested too. • We call this part of the development process for HALT.
