Antibiotics and painkillers are both medicines that may be used if ill - this video explains the differences between them. Download the accompanying workbook from www.emmatheteachie.co.uk • Workbook: https://emmatheteachie.co.uk/product/... • Mindmap: https://emmatheteachie.co.uk/product/... • **This video is for the topic of Infection and Response for GCSE Biology and Combined Science (9-1) - it is written for the AQA specification but overlaps with other exam boards.** • I’ll start with explaining what antibiotics are, giving an example of one, and discussing specificity. Some bacteria have developed antibiotic resistance and this is a topic that is expanded on in Paper 2 in the Resistant Bacteria video - • Then we’ll look at painkillers - these do not kill pathogens, so they don’t actually cure the disease - they simply treat the symptoms of disease. • I’ll also recap why it is difficult to make drugs to destroy viruses. • We’ll finish with some quick questions - here’s your chance to test yourself see what you’ve learnt! Let me know how you’ve done in the comments below! • I really hope this video helps that you’ve enjoyed revising with me - let me know if there are any other videos you’d like to see! • Support me by subscribing here: • / @emmatheteachie • Emma the teachie
