Merdeka MidAutumn Festival Double Celebrations Bercham Ipoh

On 1st September 2024, the Bercham State Constituency Office (DUN Bercham) worked together with a local non-governmental organisation to host a special event that celebrated both Merdeka and the Mid-Autumn Festival. • This is the second year they have organised this event, with YB Ong Boon Piow, the State Assemblyperson for Bercham, and Mr Loh Kwek Choon, the head of Bercham New Village, as hosts. • Local people from Bercham were invited to join in the celebrations, and children from six underprivileged homes were also invited with their guardians. • The children took part in two fun contests: Merdeka colouring and making tanglung. • The winners received prizes, and the top winners in each contest took home cash rewards, including RM300 to the best lantern maker. • The six homes invited to join in the celebrations were: • 1. Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Pelangi Perak • 2. The Salvation Army Children’s Home, Jalan Kampar, Ipoh • 3. Pertubuhan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan 1 Malaysia • 4. Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Miskin Yi Shan, Ipoh, Perak • 5. Pertubuhan Pengurusan Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Miskin Anning , Ipoh, Perak • 6. Persatuan Kebajikan Sosial Rekreasi Bercham • As part of the celebration, guests took a stroll around the neighbourhood, proudly waving Malaysian flags and carrying their lanterns, led by lion dancers. • At the end of the event, the homes also received goodie bags with basic household items like cooking oil, rice, and sugar, which added to the joy of the celebration. • #emily2u
