Permanent Daylight Saving Time explained | https://bit.ly/3MWioGU • The Sunshine Protection Act - a bill to make daylight saving time permanent - passed the Senate Tuesday. It now heads to the House, and if it passes, it heads to President Joe Biden's desk. If it becomes law, it'd go into effect in November 2023, and we wouldn't fall back one hour. • So, what would it mean to have permanent daylight saving time? • Well, it means we'd stay on the shifted time that we're on right now. Meaning, we'd no longer fall back or turn back our clocks one hour in the fall. • For North Carolina, it means our sunset would never be earlier than 6 p.m. The earliest sunset we'd have would be 6:05 p.m. in December. • On the flip side, sunrises would happen much later in the winter. At the latest, the sun would rise around 8:30 a.m. in late December and early January. • Some folks have noted these later sunrises could result in more school closures/delays in the event of winter weather. That is possible. School buses would have to wait an extra hour for black ice concerns to go away. • The sun would rise much later in late December and early January.
