Honda XLR125R Part 32: Reinforced clutch center clutch 1 for 97 to 2000 XLR125R (JD16): https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEv... • Notes d'atelier / Shop notebook: • https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... • Today, I explain why I decided to install a reinforced clutch on my Honda XLR125R. • With increased engine power, I noticed that the stock clutch started slipping, especially with the wide tires and heavy-duty chain kit I installed. This video walks you through my solution to the issue. • Preparation and Disassembly of the Stock Clutch • Initial Lever Force Measurement: • I measured the force needed to activate the stock clutch by suspending a basket from the lever. It took 8 kg for the lever to engage. • Disassembly of the Stock Clutch: • I laid the bike on its side to avoid draining the oil and to make it easier to remove the clutch cover. • While disassembling, I also cleaned the centrifugal oil purifier, where debris tends to accumulate. • I removed the nut, springs, and clutch plates (brand TRW), which were still in good condition after only 1000 km of use. • Comparison Between Stock and Reinforced Clutches • Reinforced Springs: • The new EBC springs I installed are 15% stiffer than the stock springs, providing better pressure. • Clutch Plates: • The reinforced clutch plates have a significantly larger friction surface (+40%) compared to the stock plates. • The reinforced clutch also includes an additional friction plate and smooth plate, further increasing the total contact surface. • Pressure Plate: • The pressure plate in the reinforced clutch is much sturdier and features 6 springs (compared to 4 in the stock clutch), improving pressure distribution. • Installation of the Reinforced Clutch • I soaked the new friction plates in oil for 24 hours before installation to prevent glazing during the first use. • During assembly, I paid close attention to the orientation of the parts, such as the clutch basket, washers, and plates. • I replaced the clutch nut with a new one to ensure a secure fit. • Testing and Conclusions • Initial Road Test: • The force required to pull the clutch lever remained similar to the stock setup. • However, the clutch’s progressiveness improved dramatically, allowing for very precise control. • Preparation for an Off-Road Test: • I plan to do a 3-hour off-road ride to thoroughly test the durability of the reinforced clutch. • After the first few kilometers, I noticed no slippage, even under slightly demanding conditions. • Final Thoughts and Recommendations • The reinforced clutch is an excellent upgrade for improved reliability and smoother engagement, although it doesn’t reduce lever force. • Before opting for a complete reinforced clutch, you can try simpler solutions, such as reinforced springs or adding washers under the stock springs. • #HondaXLR125R #Embrayage #Clutch
