Pumping is a science and an art. Remember: your body wants to make enough milk for your baby to grow, but there are a lot of unrealistic expectations for milk volumes out there on social media. If you’re exclusively pumping and making 25-30oz a day, you have a full supply. If you’re feeding your baby your own milk every day and they are growing on just your milk and don’t have a stash, you still have a full supply. You don’t need a stash in the freezer to successfully breastfeed your baby. If you’re a working mom, you only need to have enough milk for the day you are gone. Having days worth of milk in the freezer is not necessary or biologically normal. It’s just a thing we can do now because of modern technology. • That said, if you’re not making enough to support baby’s daily intake needs, here are a few points to consider: not all pumps are created equal and the quality of your pump can absolutely make a difference in your output. Having the right size flange is key. The majority CANNOT pump with what comes in the box. Most need smaller and many need a different kind of flange. Replace parts often depending on how much you’re pumping. Hormones impact milk supply and dips in supply are common during periods. Certain medications also tamper with supply.
