Homemade old fashioned chicken and dumplings are just good for the soul. I always talk about food memories with my students and this chicken and dumplings recipe is the one I tell them about. I love chicken and dumplings and my grandma's were the best. I make a pretty mean pot of old fashioned chicken and dumplings, but can never seem to match grandma's. If the truth be told I probably make better chicken and dumplings then her, but they never match up to the memory of grandma's, because the memory of her comes with them. I will never match that. I am willing to say the this is the best chicken and dumplings recipe. I really belive I have perfected this chicken soup recipe. Yes I said chicken soup. Chicken and dumpings is a chicken soup. This is southern comfort food at its best. This is a rustic what I call pesant dish. It did not take much to make a pot of chicken and dumplings. Just a chicken, some flour, baking powder, and lard. Well you would need a little salt and pepper to season with. I hope you like my version of chicken and dumplings and please share my video of Old Fashioned Chicken And Dumplings Recipe . I sure will appreciate it. • Recipe for Dumplings • 2 cups All purpose flour • 1/2-1 tsp black pepper • 1 1/2 tsp salt • 1/2 cup butter • 1/4-3/8 cup milk • Cut in your butter to your dry ingredients • Add milk and work into flour to form a soft dough, between a pie crust and biscuit dough • Roll out dough to 3/16 of an inch thick and cut into strips 1 X 2 • Drop dumplings into chicken stock at a low boil and cook for about 10 minutes. • I used this recipe 3 times for this large pot of chicken and dumplings • Soup Recipe • Cook down your chickens with salt, pepper, garlic and a bay leaf. I had 20lbs of chicken. • I added some chicken base to the water. • Debone chicken and reserve • I used 3 - 4 gallons of prepared stock plus the chicken stock from cooking the chickens • Drop dumplings into your stock at a low boil and cook for about 10 minutes. • You can thicken your broth with a flour slurry.
