This is one of the few drinks to originate in Boston, MA and was created around 1898 at the bar of The Gilded Age Restaurant called the Loch-Ober. The story behind this drink was that it was created to honor the election of Martin M. Lomasney, a Democratic political Czar who hoped to capture a seat in the state’s Legislature. Lomasney had held considerable power in the city for nearly 50 years and this drink was made not only to honor his election but also Boston’s Eighth Ward which was the ward to deliver him the winning margin. During Prohibition The Boston Globe reported that the drink was believed to have originated at The Old (and abandoned) Quincy House, but we can drop that on the pile of other myths about this drink which can’t be confirmed. There are many many different interpretations of this drink, this is the one I prefer. • Tutorial Starts 0:55 • Here's links to the gear I use in this episode: • Barfly Copper Measuring Cup: https://amzn.to/2BA24Yk • Barfly Shaking Set: https://amzn.to/2OYG0w4 • Barfly Hawthorn Strainer: https://amzn.to/2OkFZ8v • Barfly Fine Strainer: https://amzn.to/2RaFkoS • If you guys want to check out our full amazon store you can do so here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/theeducat... • We are happy to announce that we are officially sponsored by Barfly Mixology Gear.
