A new study on the influence of reality television finds that many girls between the ages of 11 and 17 who watch reality-based programming believe that lying and being mean is necessary to achieve goals and that being mean also builds respect among peers. Project 21 fellow Deneen Borelli says reality television produced in this manner is sending totally the wrong message to this impressionable segment of the population and that the solution — such as choosing not to view such programming — starts in the home rather than with government regulation. • • This discussion appeared on the 10/23/11 edition of America's News Headquarters on the Fox News Channel.
