Full Playlist: • Skin Care 101 • - • - • Watch more Skin Care 101 videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/410888-... • Bay rum aftershave is traditionally made by a complex distillation process, but you can prepare your own batch using this simplified recipe. • Step 1: Place some bay leaves in a jar • Place some leaves of the West Indian bay tree, called Pimenta racemosa, in a wide mouth Mason jar. • Tip • Don't use bay laurel leaves from the supermarket or you'll end up smelling like soup stock. • Step 2: Add spices • Add some cloves, crushed allspice berries, and grated ginger to the jar. • Step 3: Fill the jar with vodka and rum • Fill the jar with a mixture of 5 parts vodka to 1 part Jamaican dark rum and cover the jar with a tightly fitting lid. • Step 4: Let the mixture sit • Let the rum, leaves, and spices sit in the jar for several weeks in a cool, dark place -- but not a refrigerator! The alcohol will extract the oil from the bay leaves. • Step 5: Filter the liquid • Filter the liquid through coffee filters until all of the residue is gone. Then place it in an attractive bottle.
