(Third Sunday after the Epiphany)-Luke 4:14-21 “Subverting Expectations” The people had heard all about Jesus. They were his hometown neighbors who watched him grow up. It’s natural that they had expectations of him, what he would say/do. But Jesus subverts these, putting his own emphasis on the prophecy of Isaiah, who he was and why he had come. Does Jesus meet our expectations? The worlds? Are we who Jesus expects us to be? Who the world expects us to be? Are we willing to go against the grain if it means being truly faithful to Jesus?
