Indian crested porcupine. Its scientific name is Hystrix indica. It has got different names in different languages. It’s also called khar pusht means spined back in Urdu. • We have forced him to shift him to this hole so we can show you. It was here and we put water in his hole in order to shift it here so we can share its information with you. • This crested Indian porcupine is Asian animal and it’s found in all Asia. In Pakistan it is found in Gilgit Baltistan, some areas of Baluchistan and all over Pakistan. • At the moment I am filming it in a desert area of Fordabas. You can see how it is relaxing in there. They like to live in these type of holes. It loves to live in vegetated areas. The area which is having excess of potatos, penuts and other vegitables. They are active during night and live in borrows during day. • They live together but when night falls they take separate routs. Let me take it out first then I will share rest of information. Taking them out is another type of advanture or I can say it is madness too. It’s of normal size its not very big. • So this is our Indian crested porcupine. Its also called Hystrix Indica. Ooooo it has spined me. Look at its teeth. • The correct way to hold it is that you grab it from its forelegs. Then it will be unable to attack you. Let me take it to a clean place so I can share its body shape with you. That place looks better. • So it has bitten me. So look at its forelegs it is having 4 toes in it and hind legs are having 5 toes in it. • Its mouth is just like a mouse and it has ears resembles to human. Whole of body is covered with quills or spines. Its neck is having quills like necklace. • It is also having big quills on back but it is of normal size and I think in any fight it has lost some of its quills. • It attacks by moving its quills which will make sharp noises. • There are many false superstitions about its quills. One is that if you will burrow its quill in any house there will be always fighting in that house, and second one is that it throws its quills. No, it cannot throw its quills at you but, instead it will just vibrate its quills and attack. • What I am doing seems I will be soon attacked by its quills. Let me show you its teeth. Its like a rabbit’s teeth. From front we can see 4 big about 1 inch each teeth. • Now let me tell you what it eats, at the moment its eating my hand and glove but they love to eat every type of vegetation, crops, fruits small insects and arthropods. They damage the crops and because of that they got killed by people too. • In 1970’s at side of Multan people kept prizes for killing porcupines. Because they were too much at that time and were destroying people’s crops. Now I am going to make it lay straight. • Now you might see it clear. I apologies I will release it soon. • This porcupine can be around 90 cm. Its weight is around 18kg is also recorded. March up to Feb is its breeding season. A female porcupine after 240 days of gestation will give birth to 2 to 4 babies. • It will take care of its babies for about 3 months and then babies spend their life free in wilderness. • Babies are very active and cleaver. In India and Pakistan some Non-Muslim families also eats them. • On occasion when baby is born or someone is getting married they are eaten. Amazingly they can live up to 20 years. • In wilderness many wild animals like lions, cats, hyenas, cheetahs, dogs and crocodiles hunts them. Its very difficult to hunt them. • A wild animal cannot hunt them until they are able to smash their face or hurt their belly, until then it is impossible to hunt them. Human only hunt them when they break into their fields. • People hunt them using dogs and put water in their holes and they come out so they kill them easily. In Pakistan and India their population is not in danger but in Pakistan as I am from Punjab its population is in danger. As just for making video upon it I have to travel about 100 km from my place. They become adults around 2 years of age. • #HystrixIndica #CrestedIndianPorcupine #Porcupine #WildRush • .....................................................................................................................................................................Special thanks: Dr. Sundus Zahid (PhD Zoology) for identifying the specimen and providing the data for this beautiful species of this Porcupine. • ..................................................................................................................................................................... • For more please Visit or Subscribe my Youtube Channel. • / wildrushpk • Instagram • https://instagram.com/wildrushpk?utm_... • Facebook Page • / wildrushpk • .....................................................................................................................................................................
