I would say that the Ecuador National Anthem ( ¡Salve, Oh Patria! - English: We Salute you, Our Homeland! ) is one of the more chromatic anthems that I've experienced (in other words, it uses a lot of notes that aren't in the tonic (home) scale). Even the other South American anthems stay clear of exploring chromaticism to a large degree, so I commend Ecuador's anthem for doing so. • I found a very useful link for sheet music that I left largely untouched, as it was excellently written. The main task I had to do was fingering, which was not provided in the score. This may actually be the incorrect key to do the anthem in because I discovered after recording that wikipedia lists the official key as E major! I'm sure I would not have chosen G major had a majority of recordings I listened to not been in G major. Here lies the difficult question of recording anthems. • n November of 1865, the poet Juan León Mera Martínez, who was then the secretary of the Senate of Ecuador, wrote and submitted the lyrics of the National Anthem with permission from the president of the Senate, Nicolás Espinosa. These lyrics were approved by the Senate, and sent to Antonio Neumane in Guayaquil (the largest city in Ecuador), so that he could set them to music. Despite this early existence of the anthem, it was not adopted as the National Anthem until 1948. • #Ecuador #NationalAnthem #Piano
