See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” • THOUGHTFUL THOUGHTS • The Root of David means He is from the ancestry of King David. • A). A prophecy by Isaiah (in 11:1-10) tells us that the Messiah will be an ancestor • of King David. • That prophecy came true in Jesus both from: • i). His earthly mother, Mary, from her family tree going back to King David; • ii). and also on Jesus’ stepfather’s side, (Joseph), legally, as his ancestry also went • back to King David. • B). Revelation 22:16 explains “I am the root…” and continues “and the offspring of David. Note that not only is the root explained as the offspring of David, but the Root speaks of beginnings and “Offspring”, which brings those beginnings of ancestry up to the era of the speaker. The person captures those beginnings. • i). Saul had been rejected by God and replaced with David because he kept coming back to God in repentance and faith after sinning. God heard his repentance and cries for mercy. David wanted what was spiritual even though he made some grave errors. So, David’s royal line became the start of the royal line leading to Jesus, which was prophesied to continue on through the line of Judah. The Messiah was identifiable for those whose heart was open to see - like Anna in the Temple, and the three wise men. • ii). These are all pictures for us to identify the Messiah. There is no getting around identifying Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah, as all the prophecies add up to make it impossible to identify anyone else. Some Jews still say that the Messiah has to be someone else… which is impossible. Bethlehem is out of bounds now, and the grief described in Isaiah 53 cannot be followed through now. There is a veil over most Jewish eyes which Paul noted. The Messianic prophecies point to Jesus (Yeshua) as being the Christ. For these reasons, many Jews are becoming “Messianic Jews” by recognising Yeshua as the Messiah and ignoring rabbis. • —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • DAY 2 DEVOTIONAL • Rev. 5:6-9; 19:7 9 The Lamb • Rev. 5:6 “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” • THOUGHTFUL THOUGHTS • John saw what looked like a Lamb that had been slain. The Greek word used for “slain” here, means “slaughtered”. The Lamb was in the middle of the throne, as He was the focal point. • A Lamb with horns, we would call a Ram. The Ram was surrounded by those who God recognised as being leaders, called elders. • The seven eyes are explained as seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Revelation 5:6 explains that the seven spirits are the “seven eyes” of the Lamb, and they are “sent out into all the earth.” The seven eyes speak of the Spirit;- • a). “seeing everything”, (omniscience). • b). Being sent into all the earth, which speaks of His presence everywhere, at the same time, (omnipresence). • That was why Jesus said it was better that He returned to His Father in heaven, as He would send the Holy Spirit, (who could be with all believers everywhere.) • c). “Horns” speaks of power. The number seven speaks of completeness, it means the Lamb with seven horns (Ram), is all-powerful. • —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • DAY 3 DEVOTIONAL • Rev. 17:14 Lord of Lords • Rev. 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of Lords and King of Kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. • ... • For the rest of blog, visit www.inspirational.org.nz • —------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • This link takes you to our devotional https://blog.inspirationalmedia.org.nz/ • This is John Dunning signing off from “Thoughtful Thoughts” for another week. • Follow the story with us week by week, on www.inspirational.org.nz
