Today were gonna do with Diminished Chords. If you are new to diminished chords, you’ll gonna find this fun and somewhat unique way to get started with diminished chords. • Okay, there’s three kinds of diminished chords that are common. The basic diminished triad is just 3 notes then there’s something called a half diminished chord, it’s a diminished chord with a regular 7th added to it. I love that chord but today were gonna talk about a fully diminished chord or another way to say it is a diminished 7th chord so don’t worry about all that language. One way to get a handle on this is diminished chords are just a stock of minor thirds one on top of the other so its four notes and minor third by the way is three half steps or if you’re on the guitar that would be three frets so the first note then a minor third then next note then a minor third next note and minor third then next note so when I need to things about that is the chords completely even and that made even if you were to switch the whole chord around it would still technically be the same chord, just a different note on the bottom. You can put any note on the bottom and it will be the same chord. • Here I’ve written out the A sharp diminished 7th chord, its comprised of four notes – the A sharp note, the C sharp note, the E note and the G note. Now each of these notes are exactly the same descend from each other, there are minor third. Minor third by the way is the same as three half steps or three frets on the guitar so the A sharp to the C sharp is exactly a minor third, from the C sharp through the E is the minor third that would be C sharp, D, D sharp E three half steps and then from the E to the G is another minor third. Now the way this chord is constructed, you can take any note like this note down here and move it up right here and it would still be the same chord. It would just have a different note on the base, we call that a symmetrical chord. • Let’s make our diminished chord. To start with, make an A7 chord, use your 2nd and 3rd fingers, open A7 and we’re gonna do just four notes now to keep things simple, that’s the 5th string all the way to the second string – four notes, got it. You got my second finger free. Now I’m gonna placed my second finger down on the fifth string first fret that now makes an A sharp, that’s the root note for now, A sharp diminished 7 chord, A sharp. I call this an A form so to distinguish from the next form, I’ll show you so go ahead and try with me. Make your A7 and I’m playing that fifth to the second strings and put your first finger down that’s A sharp diminished 7. • Now let’s do the D form. To do that, make a D7 and I’m gonna leave my first finger out again so I’m not using my third finger here on the third string second fret, second finger on the second string first fret and the pinky on the first string second fret – that’s the D7. To make it a diminished chord, were gonna put down the first finger on the fourth string first fret now it’s D sharp diminished 7. • Remember I told you that notes can be switched around, that’s the same chord, same chord, same chord just the notes are switching around but has all the same notes in it. • --- • *** • I got the inspiration to teach beginning students this neat trick when their first learning diminish chords from Nick Minnion on his video here:    • Diminished Chords - How to Play them ...   (well done Nick!) • *** •    • Diminished Chords Made Easy For Guitar   • You Will Also Enjoy This: •    • A minor add 9 [Am(add 9)] Is It the M...   • • diminished chords guitar • how to play diminished chords on guitar • diminished 7th chords • diminished 7 chord • diminished chords • diminished chords on guitar • diminished guitar chords • guitar chords diminished • guitar diminished chords • using diminished chords • • - - • FREE CHECKLIST • Wish you were playing guitar naturally and with complete confidence? • Get the FREE Guitar Players Checklist: • https://www.tomasmichaud.com/checklist/ • My Favorite Guitar Gear and Other Useful Stuff: https://www.tomasmichaud.com/favorite...
