The complete puzzle has 218 individual pieces. Its mechanism is related to Minimal Twist, using a dovetail-style connection to connect adjacent pieces. The sphere flexes a bit because of the play in the dovetail connections needed for the turning of the layers. Once broken in, it turns surprisingly smoothly, although there is not any corner-cutting.
