Exploring Irkutsk, one of Siberia's most interesting and historical cities. • HISTORY LESSON! • In Saint Petersburg in December 1825, a group of nobles revolted against the Tsarist rule in Russia at the time. Well, this failed and many of these 'Decemberists' were executed and many others were banished to Siberia and told never to return to European Russia, in particular to the area that became Irkutsk. This city became an exile post these distinguished but troublesome 'revolters'. • Irkutsk's historic centre is incredibly beautiful and a great example of early Siberian architecture.
