Why PABA is used as UV filter in sunscreen lotions? So its not uncommon to assume that it can absorb UV radiation and prevents penetration of this radiation into the skin. This is true as it can show absorption maxima in the UV region at 288 nm approximately thereby it filters UV-B radiation. • We can estimate this lambda max value of PABA and therefore we can assess whether is suitable as UV filter or not.
