#trainspotting #lincolnshirewoldsrailway #trains • Lincolnshire woods railway open day 17/7/2022 vlog. Our visit and experience of the iconic railway thats been restored by the by volunteers. • Lincolnshire Wolds Railway Webpage • https://www.lincolnshirewoldsrailway.... • Situated in a beautiful part of Lincolnshire in countryside between the Wolds and the coast, LWR is only a short distance from Grimsby, the seaside resort of Cleethorpes and the historic market town of Louth. The railway operates on a stretch of line that was once part of the Great Northern route from Boston to Grimsby. • After the last section of line was closed by BR in 1980, a preservation society was formed with the aim of restoring it. Heritage steam trains once again run between Ludborough and North Thoresby and work is now in progress to extend the line southwards towards Louth. What visitors to the railway see today is a result of all the time and effort that a small, but dedicated band of volunteers have put in over many years. • We are the only standard gauge heritage steam railway in Lincolnshire. It is very important to us to keep our heritage line running and keeping steam alive, we are living history with a purpose to recreate and preserve railway scenes of the past. • We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly railway. • A WEALTH OF HISTORY • This stretch of track which was once part of the Great Northern Route opened on 1st March 1848 to passenger traffic. It became known as the East Lincolnshire line and was operated by the Great Northern Railway Company. The railway became very important for the local community and the transportation of goods. Following the nationalisation of the railway in 1948, a series of closures of smaller stations paved the way to the final closure of the line in December 1980. A lot of hard work and determination from a group of dedicated volunteers has allowed a short section of the railway to be reopened. • Information in this video taken from the official lincolnshire wolds railway website as advertising from us We Love Trains in the hope of attracting more visitors.
