The Kapolei Energy Storage (KES) system, featuring 158 Megapack 2XL units, provides 185 megawatts of power and 565 megawatt-hours of energy storage. This system effectively replaces Hawaii's last coal plant, which was retired in 2022. • The project, developed in partnership with Plus Power, is aimed at stabilizing Hawaii's grid as the state works toward its goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2045. The KES site went live in January, and Tesla Senior VP Drew Baglino visited to celebrate its Commercial Operation Date. • This project marks a significant step in Hawaii’s transition away from fossil fuels, providing grid-stabilizing technology to support renewable energy efforts.
