Highlights from the drive to Coola Outstation in the Canunda National Park, located in South Australia. • Located 50 minutes outside Mount Gambier, the Outstation offers an interesting look into life in early Australia. • Built by hand in 1863 with local stone from Mt Elephant, the main building was 10.5m x 5.4m with 2 rooms and sweeping verandas. • The Outstation sat on the land holding of Captain John Ellis, who aquired the strip as part of the Benara Estate of which the head station was named 'Coola'. • It was used by stockmen to graze cattle while moving them between areas avoiding 'coast disease'. The first residence was in 1875 by John Emily Campbell and was used up until 1950. • Worth the visit if you're passing through. • #seeaustralia #southaustralia #abandoned #abandonedplaces #ruins #historical #colonialhistory #cattle #limestonecoast #mountgambier #robe #beachport #exploreaustralia #architecture #canunda #nationalpark #nationalparks
