I am an advocate for people with autism. My son is autistic, he was having a meltdown in this video as a result of anxiety related to the doctors visit. As you can see I was very frustrated in this video as the office staff contacted Police as opposed to Medical Professionals Trained to Handle Autism or Mentally Ill Patients. The Situation Escalated When the Officer Insisted On Opening The Door. During Meltdown's my child requires time, patience and privacy to calm down. When his space is invaded it can cause increased anxiety and aggression towards others. I did not want the officers to be injured and potentially hurt my child as a result. It is My Hope In Sharing This Video That All Officers Are Trained In Handling Patients With Autism and Other Mental Disorders as well as their Families.
