Founded in 1783 by the officers of the Continental Army, the society is named after Cincinnatus, a patriotic leader who refused rewards for serving the Roman republic. With headquarters in Washington, D.C., the society has nearly 4,000 members in the United States and France. The society's library, museum and educational outreach programs promote advanced research and popular appreciation of the men and women whose sacrifices secured American independence.
