FUENGIROLA Spain | A walk along Fuengirola Beach, Spain 🇪🇸 • We take a walk along the seafront and beach in Fuengirola near Malaga, Spain. Situated close to Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Marbella, this is a very popular holiday destination! • Only 25km from Malaga International Airport is the town of Fuengirola – one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol. • Fuengirola is famous for its seven kilometre (5 mile) stretch of sandy beach, beginning at the Sohail Castle to the west (at the Beatriz Spa Hotel) and ending at Torreblanca to the east. The promenade is officially called Paseo Maritimo Rey de España. (Promenade). • All along the beach and the sea front, you will find every kind of water sports and seaside amenity. The watersports areas are segregated from the bathers, head for the Marina office if you want to book a motorboat, waterski or parasail. The paseo maritimo is wide and extensive, reflecting the town's growth in importance during that time. Front line hotels and apartment blocks are prime locations for the perfect Mediterranean beach holiday. • All along the beach, there are excellent 'chiringuitos' (beach bars / restaurants), where fresh fish and seafood is usually the star of the menu, even though most places also cater to the first time visitor to Spain who prefers plainer fare, such as chicken and chips. Other restaurants, representing foods around the world. There are also plenty of small mini-markets and news agents along the sea front selling toys, beach items, gifts, books, and drinks. • Holidays to Fuengirola take you to one of the Costa del Sol's big-league resorts – a larger-than-life hub of designer shops, gourmet restaurants and a non-stop beach. • A Costa that comes with extras • Sandwiched between Torremolinos and Marbella, the former fishing village of Fuengirola is now one of the Costa del Sol’s biggest players. It’s got the high-rise hotels, buzzing bars and tourist-friendly restaurants to prove it, but there are also side streets and squares crammed with upmarket tapas places and chic boutiques. And a Moorish castle adds a bit of history. The real draw, though, is the super-sized sandy beach. • A brace of Blue Flag beaches • Fuengirola has a whopping eight kilometres of sand, split into eight different beaches. It kicks off at the castle and streaks westwards past the marina to Carvajal in the east. Rows of loungers await sunseekers and all sorts of watersports are on standby. And there are chiringuitos – mini-restaurants right on the sand – plus reams of food and drink places on the Paseo Maritimo, which spans the whole stretch. • Lively nightlife • Fuengirola firmly embraces its nightlife. The Paseo Maritimo keeps up the Costa spirit with an energetic collection of Brit bars, Irish pubs and discos. Meanwhile, the area in and around the Plaza de la Constitucion – the town’s main square – picks up the traditional Andalusian vibe with chichi tapas bars and bodegas, or wine cellars. • Daytrips to Granada • It’s less than two hours' drive to Granada. Here, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the must-see is the Alhambra Palace, a vast Moorish citadel that dates back to the 14th century. It’s an architectural wonder, with latticed columns and ceilings that look they’ve been carved out of honeycomb.
