Leaf-Footed Bugs get their name from their leaf-shaped hind tibias. They feed on plants, not people. They use their beak, called a proboscis, to pierce leaves, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, etc., Then they liquify the plant tissue with their saliva and suck out the juice. They can be destructive in large numbers, especially for crops. They have enough predators that I don't worry about controlling them in my yard. Because they have a gland that secretes a smelly substance, they're sometimes called stink bugs, but Stink Bugs are a different (closely related) insect. They also get mistaken for Assassin Bugs, but Assassin Bugs have skinny hind legs. • #nature #macro #animals #insects #science #learning #education • Music: Brooklyn and the Bridge by Nico Staf, from YouTube's audio library. • www.tdtangents.com
