Anathema is a band with a very diverse discography. They formed in 1990 and pioneered death/doom along with bands like Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride (aka The Peaceville Three). Around 1998, the band decided to change their sound and Alternative 4 marked their shift into Alternative Rock after a gradual change of sound that happened through having gradually less death metal in their music throughout their first 3 albums. In 2010 their music became closer to Prog/Art Rock and they had been doing it since then until the band came to some issues and they are currently disputing stupid things such as band rights and who owns the band. Boring shit. • But you know what's not boring - exactly, this demo. Primitive death/doom, extremely atmospheric (probably by accident) and ridden with crushing riffs and sombre melodies. This one might not be the legendary Anathema debut album that influenced so much stuff, but it absolutely presents a raw blueprint of what they had in mind since late 80's - they just needed to record it and 1990 was the year. • Sick fucking demo from a band that undoubtedly left their mark in the death/doom genre.
