I obtained the actual music from the box set, The Remains of Tom Lehrer , which was released in 2000; it was never released previously! Enjoy. • • And the last part is the main theme of The Phantom of the Opera , by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Simply the 'cherry on top', and my personal song. • • Here's the description Tom Lehrer himself made about the song: That's Mathematics was originally intended to be sung to the tune of That's Entertainment (from the movie The Band Wagon, lyrics by Howard Dietz, music by Arthur Schwartz). It was written in 1985, but not used, as a potential theme song for a Children's Television Workshop series, which was eventually called Square One TV. In 1993 it was performed as part of a mathematics festival (if you can imagine such a concept) set up by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute of Berkeley, California in honor of Andrew Wiles's historic proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. The owners of the copyright to That's Entertainment, however, refused to allow the original music to be used on that occasion, so I wrote the tune that appears here. • • Sorry I gave so much information about the music earlier.
