Here I present the 5th part of the Vesper Op. 37 by Rachmaninov, Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart . Also known as the Nunc dimittis or Song of Simeon. The canticle is taken from the second chapter of Luke 2:29-32 • Lord, now you let your servant go in peace; • Your word has been fulfilled. • My eyes have seen the salvation • You have prepared in the sight of every people, • A light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people, Israel. • This Kiev Chant is based on settings from the Russian Orthodox Vespers Service. • Accompanying photographs of the Saint Peter Saint Paul Cathedral, St Petersburg.
