The national forest of Sainte Baume in Plan d'Aups in the Var. • Forest full of spirituality. • She is nestled under the immense wing of the cliff. • It has kept its wild appearance for millennia. • Several paths lead to the cave: the path of the roys which starts from the basilica of Saint Maximin and the one called du Canapé . • Sofa originally means chaos. This chaotic path is formerly the bed of a dry stream. In patois chaos is called sofa , hence the name of the Canapé path. • The path of the roys was opened in 1295 when the Dominican fathers settled in Sainte Baume. • This path was dotted with 7 oratories built in 1516 on the initiative of Monsignor Ferrier, Archbishop of Arles, only 3 are visible in the town of Plan d'Aups Sainte Baume today and are classified as historical monuments as of July 22 1913. • The cave is a natural cave dug by erosion.
