Performed in English (trans. Seth Jeppesen) in Roman costumes with commedia dell' arte half masks. In this slapstick version, the slaves undercut Ballio's authority and the threat he represents by running comic routines inspired by commedia dell' arte behind his back. Filmed in Forest Theatre, on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. • Plautus, Pseudolus, 133-234. • The pimp Ballio orders his slaves to make preparations for his birthday. Calidorus is in love with one of the slaves, Phoenicium. His clever slave Pseudolus vows to trick the pimp and humiliate him. • You can leave comments and questions here or—better yet—post them on the Hip-Hop Pseudolus page on our blog: http://romancomedyinperformance.blogs... • Produced at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, July 2012, as part of the NEH Summer Institute, Roman Comedy in Performance, co-directed by Sharon L.
