The stomach is a muscular, hollow organ in the gastrointestinal tract that mixes and grinds food, releases enzymes to break down proteins, and releases stomach acid to aid in absorption. Histologically, the stomach is divided into four layers: the mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, and serosa. The mucosa is the innermost layer and is composed of epithelial cells that secrete acid and enzymes. The submucosa contains blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerves. The muscularis layer is composed of smooth muscle and is responsible for the mechanical mixing of food. The serosa is the outermost layer and is composed of connective tissue that surrounds the stomach. • Stomach is the major organ of the digestive system. In this brief lecture we have tried to cover the basic structure/Anatomy, function and histology of it. It is necessary to understand the all three aspects of stomach because all are interlinked. How stomach is composed of and how it works is explained in this lecture. • #shorts #tothepoint #histology
