Federico García Lorca (Fuente Vaqueros, Granada, June 5, 1898 - on the way from Víznar to Alfacar, Granada, August 18, 1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright, and prose writer. Affiliated with the Generation of '27, he was the most influential and popular poet of Spanish literature in the 20th century. As a playwright, he is considered one of the pinnacles of Spanish theater in the 20th century. • He was born in the Granada municipality of Fuente Vaqueros, into a family of comfortable economic position. His father was the landowner Federico García Rodríguez and his mother, Vicenta Lorca Romero, a school teacher who fostered her son’s literary taste. In his adolescence, he was more interested in music than in literature; he studied piano with Antonio Segura Mesa and among his university friends, he was known more as a musician than as a writer. • In 1915 he began to study Philosophy and Letters, as well as Law, at the University of Granada.
