Our homelessness prevention programme aims to help break the cycle of homelessness for the next generation of young people. • Firstly, pupils aged 11-16 take a survey that helps to identify any risk factors – including sleeping away from home regularly, showing signs of being disengaged with school, or attending less often. But the survey also spots young people who are at risk but may be more hidden – they may be coping quietly in their own way, but when these topics are explored, it becomes clear they’re quite vulnerable. • Then, if a pupil is at risk, they’ll be invited to take part in group workshops at school that will help our Prevention team to figure out their needs and the best support options. • We work with the schools and other local services and support organisations – and together, we’re able to offer support such as family mediation and holistic health and therapeutic support. • While this is a long-term project, even in the short term, there will be clear benefits for pupils. The survey identifies issues like struggling with resilience, school disengagement and low wellbeing too, with interventions to support young people in these areas. • This work means we’ll be able to get to the root of the causes that lead to homelessness before they become more challenging to tackle – and it’s a key part of our ambition to end youth homelessness by 2037. • Our Upstream England prevention programme is inspired by proven models from around the world, such as Upstream Cymru, but this is the first time it’s being run and tested in England. • Learn more: https://centrepoint.org.uk/what-we-do...
