This is an advanced weightlifting technique that involves performing 2 sets back to back without any period of rest in between. Usually this is done for opposing muscle groups, like biceps and triceps or chest and back. • Are supersets good to include in your workout? Assuming that your goal is to maximize muscle growth and strength gains, I really can't see any good reason to include supersets in your plan. • Supersets do not deliver any specific advantage over straight sets, and all they really do is pre-fatigue your muscles so that you aren't able to generate 100% intensity on the second set in the sequence. • Superset workouts will provide benefits when it comes to improving overall conditioning and endurance, but this will be directly counterproductive assuming that your central goal is to gain muscle size. If your goal is to achieve optimal hypertrophy, stick to straight sets only with a good period of rest in between to re-generate your strength. • The only situations where supersetting would be helpful is if, as mentioned earlier, your primary goal is to improve your overall endurance and conditioning, or if you simply want to workout for general fitness reasons but aren't necessary looking to maximize muscle gain. • The only other scenario where a superset workout would be helpful is if you're completely strapped for time and have no choice but to use supersets in order to get your workout done in a specific time frame. • Other than these situations, assuming that you're a serous lifter looking to optimize body composition, supersets and dropsets are not going to to be the best approach.
